Andalusia farms is dedicated to greening urban communities, encouraging small space farmers, and helping families develop sustainable methods of farming, preparing and preserving great food.
As a part of our mission, we train urban communities to develop for-profit and non-profit farms. We transfer best practices through guides, webinars, and other communications. We provide technical assistance in identifying sites, addressing urban contamination issues, and other challenges to farming in tough spaces.
We train future farmers through our Local Food Research intern  (LFRI) program. We teach the value of work, help young people create a relationship with the land and non-human species (plants and animals), understand new techniques for growing, preparing and preserving food, as well as skills to help them sustain themselves into the future.
Finally, we hope to inspire and encourage families-especially those making less than a living wage- to understand the value of their labor in small plot farming, food preparation, and preservation.

Eagle Street Garden Success
Part of the Andalusia Farms mission is to train urban communities to develop urban organic farms to benefit the local community. We transfer best practices through guides, webinars, and other communications, and we provide technical assistance in identifying sites, addressing urban contamination issues, and other challenges to farming in tough spaces. In keeping with that mission, our non-profit arm, Pax in Terra, has aided in the building and planting several gardens in Bridgeport, CT.
Last summer in 2016, the communities at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and St. Mark’s Nursery school teamed up with Pax in Terra last summer in building a new garden on the corner of Newfield and Eagle.
Following a good growing year last year, summer 2017 brought the construction of a new berry garden. We worked with Pax in Terra, AECOME, and PREview Landscapes to plant fruitful beds of strawberries, raspberries, cherry tomatoes, string beans, bell peppers, and flowers.
The flourishing garden is a wonderful testament to the bounty of the Earth and to the commitment and cooperation of the community that tends to it.
